PURPOSE

Give students an overview and insight of the solar technology landscape and discuss some of the obstacles facing solar implementation. The presentation will cover:

  • The Department of Energy's role in increasing adoption of solar technology in the United States
  • Opportunities for students to get involved in today's solar industry

SPEAKER BIO

Scott Stephens is a photovoltaic technology manager for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Program. At the DOE, he oversees the scoping, evaluation, and implementation of technology development grants. Currently the Solar program's PV portfolio includes over 50 industry and university-led PV projects with total funding of over $100M per year. Prior to working with the DOE, Mr. Stephens worked for the U.S. Patent Office examining applications pertaining to optical systems including solar concentrating systems. He holds a M.S. in physics from the University of Delaware where he characterized the optical properties of PV thin films at the Institute of Energy Conversion and a B.A. in physics from Gustavus Adolphus College. 

LOGISTICS

The webinar will begin at noon EST on Thursday, February 11 and will last approximately 40 minutes with time for Q&A afterwards. A reminder email with Web site and dial-in information will be sent to registered participants one day prior to the event.
